Hanging Fire
The poem Hanging Fire by Audrey Lorde is a poem about a teenage girl who is experiencing confusion and the burden of pressure. She is communicating self disgust, rejection, pity, and confusion. She is victimizing herself, and making her small problems a drama.
She constantly repeats the phrase "and momma's in the bedroom with the door closed." This is because she is looking for someone to turn to or rely on who will support her unconditionally. Yet she states that her mother is never there when she is needed most. She is expressing child neglection. (For which you can be taken to court for)
Personally I do not like this poem because it is making a drama out of such pathetic problems; ashy knees, not dancing, liking a boy who sucks his thumb, and braces. She is considering death because of that when there are real problems in the world. I find this pathetic and irritating at the same time.
It also shows how many American Teenagers act today. They have nothing to complain about, and nothing else to do, so they make a telenovela(the closest thing I can think of to that word in English is drama) out of their life. Then they complain how these "huge problems" are being neglected. Of course I'm somewhat stereotyping but it definitely happens a lot. And it irritates me. (I am no exception. I have complained about things I shouldn't complain about.)
