Act 5 Scene 1
The irony of Romeo's dream is that the dream told what would later happen to Juliet, not what happened to Romeo. Romeo dreamed that " I dreamt my lady came and found me dead. Strange dream, that gives a dead man leave to think. And breathed such life with kisses in my lips. That I revived and was an emperor." But it was Romeo who found Juliet dead, and kissed her. The potion wore off and she revived. However no one became emperor, and I cannot find any event that fits into this statement. This might have been a statement that says "proceed with caution". Once he finds out Juliet "died" he decided that there was nothing left in his future. He did not make the right decisions because the outcome was obviously uneffective. He did not interpret the dream effectively because he was unable to realize that death was the outcome of bad decisions. There wasn's much to win but a lot to lose. The situation had very few possible way of turning out well. The reason he took the decision so quickly was because it was an impulse which was the cause of excessive grief. Romeo and Juliet might have been able to save themselves but with a very small probability. I personally believe that destiny is responsible for events to a certain point. I believe that it is destiny that presents us with situations and it is up to us how we respond to them. Certain situations cannot be avoided and some can be in my opinion. That is just a belief which has nothing to do with past experiences, it is just what sounds most convincing to me. I enjoyed and would respond positively to the 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet. It was easier to interpret the situations in the book, with a very interesting depiction of the main characters. However, the accent the characters had, mixed with the words they said felt very out of place. They spoke with words and sentence structure of Oldern English with a very modern American accent. This took away from the flow of the movie. Scene 5 was a rising point in the story. The tension is reaching its highest point and this adds to it. It leaves the readers with a few questions in mind. It also opens up new possible endings, most which are tragic.
